Your Input Please...
Planning is underway for the New Year. Our mission remains the same, to promote
boating safety through education and protect the rights of the recreational boater.
We did not have a general membership meeting in December. We have scheduled meetings
for the following dates at 10:00 AM at the Anchor House: January 16, February 20 and
March 20. Please mark your calendars and plan to attend. We want your ideas and
assistance in making 1999 an even better year for boating than 1998. The SMLBA has
been a key influence in making the lake safer over the last two years. It is important
that we keep this trend headed in the right direction.
Speaking of Education...
Jerry Waters has been following up with the committee studying mandatory education.
Lacey Putney and Steve Newman still want to do something to satisfy the critics but
still have no plan and are not inclined at this time to promote a complete education
system. The others don't see the need at all. The Smith Mountain Lake Association
is the only continuing impetus for mandatory education in the state. If you haven't
provided your input, please do so at this time. Until they come up with an effective
education program, we see no value in supporting mandatory education as a concept.
Thanks for your support...
Your new leadership team thanks you for your support in the past year and looks forward
to serving you in 1999. You can count on your boating association remaining dedicated
to boating safety, safety education and being aggressive on all issues in the community
relating to boating rights. We hope you had a wonderful holiday season.
Morris Johnson, Jr., President
